Grief and Loss Therapy

Often when we think of grief therapy we picture a close family member or friend has died creating feelings of loss and despair that are challenging to manage. Though death of a loved one is one of the most profound experiences of loss, humans grieve and feel significant loss in a variety of situations including divorce (whether parent or child in the divorce), the news of a serious diagnosis or a significant life change.

Grief and Loss creates a variety of shifting and changing emotions that can create additional confusion. Experiencing deep sadness, anger and guilt combined with relief, contentment and acceptance can exacerbate emotions and leave people feeling numb and depleted. Grief and Loss Therapy helps to normalize the grief journey—whatever it may look like—as well as providing safe space to share thoughts and feelings that may be uncomfortable to discuss with family and friends. Learning new coping strategies as well as exploring skills used in the past to navigate grief filled events will also be explored. Grief and Loss Counselling also includes work with individuals who are contemplating end-of-life planning through the MAiD process as well as family member and friends affected by these decisions
