Hi, my name is Lindsay and I specialize in working with neurodivergent children, youth, adults and their families to promote a healthy understanding of neurominorties. My knowledge base is focused around Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia and dysgraphia which are all neurotypes that fall under the neurodiversity paradigm.
As an AuDHD person, I believe in being an Autistic advocate through helping you to better understand your own Autistic and ADHD experiences. I feel that it is important to work from the perspective of neurodiversity, meaning I do not view Autism or ADHD as a disorder. We are disabled due to the ways in which our needs are not met by our environment.
I can also help with understanding and normalizing learning differences, focusing on the mental health impacts of living with learning differences. Please note: I do not provide assessments or diagnoses but I can provide information on how to contact appropriate providers.
My goal is to provide neurodivergent affirming care by exploring sensory needs and overall nervous system health. Many of us experience anxiety and depression as a result of having our sensory needs constantly invalidated. Additionally, we may experience isolation and rejection due to neurotypical privilege and harmful mythologies created about us. My approach to working with anxiety and depression involves acknowledging how it is being caused by our external environment, seeking accommodations, and asking for support from those who care about us. Understanding how systems cause our disablement is an important distinction in my therapeutic approach that encourages neurodivergent pride and self-acceptance.
2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and their families are encouraged to reach out. As a community member myself, I can appreciate and help navigate the complexities of compulsory heterosexuality and its impact on our identity and mental health. I also support folks who engage in relationship dynamics that exist beyond monogamy and provide guidance for healthy relationships from a polyvagal and attachment theory approach.
I also work with folks who have experienced complex trauma (c-PTSD) and childhood trauma. My approach to trauma work is through a grief and loss lens. It is through grieving our losses that we begin to heal. Loss does not have to be death related. Non-death related losses include experiences like the loss of a relationship, a childhood, loss of safety, the loss of health status due to chronic illness, loss of dreams, and much more. It is through grief that we can begin to process our losses which leads us to a pathway towards more life.
Indigenous individuals and families who are seeking support and who are comfortable working with a white settler therapist are encouraged to connect. I am passionate about anti-colonialism and work from a place of cultural humility and respect. I am NIHB insured.
I am not a textbook therapist. I bring myself to the room and offer a mixture of educational, work, and personal experiences to the therapeutic relationship. If you feel like I may be a good fit please reach out, we can arrange a phone call to explore further!
